Primarily we intend to offer HD video patterns for calibrating digital displays, such as current LCD, LED, Plasma, and DLP models. 709 encoded HD video, such as commercial Blu-rays. The AVS HD 709 patterns are meant only to calibrate for Rec. These calibration patterns will not play on standard DVD players, and they are not expected to calibrate for Rec. Users can burn the downloads to DVD media for some applications, but all of the download versions are intended only for HD players. You will find downloads here to create discs for Blu-ray and AVCHD players, a version with MP4 video for computers or other compatible devices, and a Patterns Manual with some basic instructions. This project aims to provide a free set of calibration patterns for high definition (HD) video players. Most displays now are incredibly accurate and dont need calibration. Put the money you would have spent on a calibration into getting a better TV. Instead of hiring someone, take the time to research the display you want and leave it in cinema, movie or THX mode. It reminds of me of a time when I didn't fuss with the picture, instead a marvel in it's beautiful picture and enjoy what I'm watching. I pop in Spears and Munsil disc to make sure I have no clipping and I didn't have to make any adjustments. My whites also appear to be more natural now and really pop. It's brighter, deeper blacks, more natural skin tones, better color and gamma. I've been using it for 1 month now and every single movie and show I watch looks MUCH better not 'calibrated'. Last month I decided to reset my Epson 5030ub and watch in the default calibration mode. What good is it if it shifts? Also using someone else's settings is worse. In my opinion this makes hiring a calibrator a waste of time and money. I also spoke with Michael Chen who is a highly respected THX calibrator who said projectors need to recalibrated every 6 months. A cheaper meter will almost always give a worse picture than ifnyiu select a movie or thx mode. I decided to look online for a review of my x-rite meter I found one from HD and the reviewer had the same issues. The software would show accurate readings but my eyes could clearly see way too much red in my whites and low end of the grayscale with washed out gamma. But the software and meter would tell me to push Rgain and Roffset a great deal. Every time I read the previous readings and they always shifted a towards warm a great deal. I probably calibrated it at least 5 times. Last year I bought an Epson 5030ub at a great price which included a free bulb. At the time I had a cheap Epson 2030 and I was always fussing and calibrating and even on my Vizio LED. 2 years ago I decided to make the jump and buy Calman and a light meter. For many years and many displays I try and find settings online or use test discs.
